I like adventures and primarily rate my life via postal codes.
I was born in Hereford (UK-HR2) in 1979, but grew up in Cheltenham (UK-GL51.) I was given my first computer when I was five. I attended Bournside School and later the Sixth Form Centre, before studying for a Computer Science degree at Cardiff University (UK-CF14, UK-CF24.)
In 2000 I journeyed to Bristol (UK-BS5, UK-BS8 3, UK-BS8 1) where I worked for SN Systems (now Sony Computer Entertainment.) I was there for five years writing development tools, like debuggers and performance tuners, for games consoles. During this time I also worked at “Here”, a volunteer run art shop and gallery, where I served customers on Sundays and organised events in the basement.
In 2005, after struggling for a while to mix my technical qualifications with my interest in drawing, craft and design, I decided to move to Copenhagen (DK-1367K, DK-2100Ø) and start a creative web agency called Spoiled Milk with my friend Casper Hübertz Jørgensen.
After building the foundations of the business and expanding our team during the following three years, I then moved to Zürich (CH-8004, CH-8005) in the summer of 2008 to open a foreign office, which grew rapidly.
A year later, I decided to step down from full-time employment duties and focus on some personal projects for a while, including starting a still-to-be-finished novel and organising local events in Zürich through We Speak English.
My next project was approaching the American indie publishing house McSweeney’s and proposing a joint venture to put some of their content on the iPhone, via an innovative subscription-based app. The project’s success resulted in a tangential year of freelance consulting work within the publishing industry and the development of more mobile apps for the likes of Creative Review, ProPublica and Nieves Books.
In 2010 I accepted an offer from McSweeney’s to become their full-time Digital Media Director and began working in July, albeit remotely from Zürich. I am currently awaiting confirmation of the employment visa that will enable me to move to San Francisco in October (USA-CA 94110.)
