In the summer of 2009 I approached McSweeney’s to propose working on an iPhone application together. A few months later we launched a platform capable of pushing rich-media content to users, including artwork, movies, songs and a full, immersive book reading experience.

The project received positive press coverage not only for it’s strong typographic sensibilities, but also for being one of the first apps in the publishing industry to successfully demonstrate a subscription-based payment model for users. It was awarded seventh place in TIME’s top ten apps of the year.

Following this, I spent twelve months offering consulting services to other publishing houses, as well as implementing more mobile app projects (for Creative Review, ProPublica, Neil George Ayres and Nieves Books) where I handled interface design, application programming, and in most cases the development and architecture of the accompanying server-side systems.
